Custom Furniture & Heirloom Woodwork

Furniture built to outlast everyone in your family photo.

Functionality

Furniture should work exactly as you need it to, not however you can adapt it. Sized to your space, built for how you actually live.

Aesthetic

Home is a place of warmth and comfort. Your furniture should make you feel like you're home, not like you could be in tens of thousands of other houses.

The Stories

A table should hold the memory of hundreds of meals. Built to stand the test of time, so it can be passed down for generations to keep those stories alive.

The Work

Pieces that have already left the shop

Every one of these started as a conversation with a person who couldn't find what they wanted in a store. Yours would start the same way.

Seven-foot walnut dining table with a double tripod base of walnut and maple

Walnut Table with Double Tripod Base

The need was for a table that would stand up to toddlers, homework, and three meals a day for a large family. But they didn't want a standard boxy look. They wanted everyone's legs to fit comfortably no matter where they were sitting, and a distinctive look that would add unique character to the room. A 7' × 3.5' solid walnut top and a double tripod base of walnut and maple was the perfect option.

Custom kitchen island on antique bronze wheels with drawers on both sides

The Kitchen Island

The most-used piece of furniture in any house. This one was sized to the inch for the family that cooks around it, with three drawers that pull out on either side, an open middle for cutting boards and measuring cups, a special compartment for baking trays, and a built-in trashcan. The entire 5½' island is on antique bronze wheels that lock in place, or can be unlocked to roll out as extra serving space.

Maple and purpleheart jewelry box with hand-fit joints

Maple & Purpleheart Jewelry Box

Small pieces are where sloppy work has nowhere to hide. Hand-fit joints, a lid that closes with a soft push of air, and a box that will hold three generations of anniversaries.

End grain cutting board with contrasting hardwood stripes

End Grain Cutting Board

Contrasting hardwoods, glued and milled flat, finished with food-safe wax oil. Professional chefs insist on end grain because it kills more bacteria and dulls knives more slowly.

Live edge walnut display bench for indoor plants

Live Edge Display Bench

Built for a client who wanted a natural-looking bench to display her indoor plants. Solid wood, sized to the exact space. Built for plants but sturdy enough to use as an extra seat.

Black walnut and maple entryway bench with mortise and through tenon joinery

Entry Bench

Extra-wide entryway bench—or move it over to the table for additional seating. Built from black walnut and maple. Traditional mortise and through tenon joinery on the legs.

Commissions

How a commission works

Four steps. No deposits until you've approved a design and a fixed price.

01

Tell me what you need

Send a note describing the piece, the space it lives in, and how it gets used. Rough photos and bad sketches welcome. That's what mine look like too.

02

Design & fixed quote

I send a design, wood options, and one number. That number doesn't move unless the design does. No surprises on the invoice.

03

The build

You get photos as your piece comes together, from rough lumber to final finish. Most pieces take four to eight weeks in the queue, but you'll get a precise delivery date before your deposit is due.

04

Delivery

Local pieces I deliver and place myself. Shipped pieces get crated like they're going to war. Either way, it arrives ready to use.

The Decade Joint Guarantee

If a joint I cut ever fails under normal use, I repair or rebuild the piece. Not for a year. For a decade. If a joint lasts a decade, it likely won't ever fail from normal use.

Start a Commission

Tell me about the piece you can't find anywhere

That's how almost every commission starts. Someone spends weeks searching stores and scrolling listings, and nothing is the right size, the right wood, or built to last past the warranty.

If that's you, send me a note. Describe the piece, the room, and what it needs to survive. I'll tell you honestly whether it's something I can build well, what the wood options are, and what it will cost.

The queue is limited to what one man can build without cutting corners. If you want a piece this year, sooner is better.
